Partz 4 Palestine: our first benefit show

In early December, Doll Partz put together our first benefit event to raise money for relief in Gaza entitled Partz 4 Palestine. With live music from San Marcos/Austin bands and local vendors, we were able to raise almost $1,600 for American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera).
Genuine impact does come from the efforts of one but of the collective, and we at Doll Partz Blog wanted to use the power of community and music to provide necessities for those in Gaza. It is frustrating trying to help out others on a large scale as a young adult. Being in a college town, we saw enough people rightfully upset at what’s happening in Gaza and knew that a benefit event would be something several people would partake in. The amount of support Partz 4 Palestine received, whether it be a donation or a social media story repost was amazing to see and we are incredibly thankful to everyone that was involved.
Partz 4 Palestine had performances from Maddie and The Deadnames (SMTX), Flight By Nothing (ATX), Sad Cell (ATX), Window Shop (SMTX), and Femlinn (ATX), as well as vendors tinyiscursed, Cool Beans Thrift, Loved Labels, and TEXTILE. Each band brought high charisma and energy to the night, and the crowd was enthusiastic and lively throughout the night. We were so grateful to each and everyone of the bands and vendors who volunteered their time and talent that evening to make that night a possibility. We truly could not have done it without all of your immense help.
The San Marcos community came together in a wonderful way, and it was beautiful to see everyone coming out for such an important cause. Everyone withstood the cold weather- and even made it past an hour long highway closure to come out for this event. It was uplifting to see so many college students who care deeply about what is happening in Palestine. This event truly could not have turned out better. Despite Doll Partz still learning the ropes of throwing an event, we were able to push through roadbumps to make this night a success.
To reiterate what should be the biggest takeaway from this article, being active in your community is the most important thing you can do in times like these. With that being said, your activism shouldn’t end with going to one event: continue to contact your representatives, attend protests, donate if you have the means to do so, and spread the word! This event was by no means the end of our publication’s support of Palestine, and we hope to continue to emphasize the importance of relief for Gaza.
